About Manpreet Singh

Manpreet Singh is an Indian field hockey player and is currently the Indian Men’s National Field Hockey team’s Captain since May 2017. Manpreet Singh’s full name is Manpreet Singh Pawar. He was born in a farming family in Mithapur near Jalandhar district of Punjab. Manpreet used to have a hockey stick in his hand before taking a pencil in his hand.

Proficiency in hockey is in his genes, as both elder brothers are also hockey players. The prize money that his cousins also received during their matches was the only highlight for Manpreet in his early days in hockey.

He also played hockey as a hobby and had no specific plans to make a career out of it. Shortly thereafter, he met Pargat Singh, himself a former captain of the Indian hockey team.

Manpreet Singh is a famous hockey player of India. He is currently also leading the Indian men’s national field hockey team as the captain since May 2017. He also got the opportunity to represent India for the first time in 2011 when he was only 19 years old. Manpreet’s glory days finally arrived in the same year. 2012 Summer Olympics.

He also received extraordinary accolades for his crown in 2014 when he was adjudged as Asia’s Junior Player of the Year.

His mother was also very much worried about his career. Manpreet’s stubbornness forces her mother to reconsider her decision once again. And when he won Rs 500 as prize money in a hockey match, he was not more than ten years old.

This victory inspired his mother to continue with hockey. In 2005 too, he soon started his training at Surjit Hockey Academy – the best hockey training institute located in Jalandhar. As the name of the academy suggests, it is known for producing some great players. There a Manpreet was being prepared for future international moves.
