About Punjabi MC

Punjabi MC is an English musician, rapper, recording artist, producer as well as a DJ. His real name is Rajinder Singh Rai. He is of Punjabi origin. He was born on 14 February 1973 in Coventry, United Kingdom, England. He is also known for Mundiyan Toh Bach Ke, which was released in 2002.

He also touches various genres through his music including hip-hop, electronica, Asian underground, bhangra, turntablism etc. His name Punjabi MC also came because of his Punjabi music which became widely popular. He also aimed to create a fusion of two completely different styles Punjabi and Hip Hop. He had attempted a remix of Gharian Milan Dey, after which Natural Records had approached him.

His release Mudiyan To Bach Ke has been a huge hit. It was also a mix of the theme of Knight Rider, a TV series, and Bhangra. The song became popular across Europe, and in 2003 a video was made for it and featured American rapper Jay-Z. In the year 2004 also he mixed with a Turkish singer but did not release the mixed version of the song. The name of the song was Mirza. And he also released an album named Indian Timing in the year 2008.

He used Ophra Haza’s samples for this. His music video titled Snake Charmer was also screened at the DJ Ra’s Music Video Night at the Toronto Film Festival, which is also one of the longest running film festivals in South Asia. She made his acting debut on television when she made his debut at Payal Banquet Hall in Ontario, Canada.

The show that aired was called The Bhangrametry and DJ Ra was the host of the show. But it was also broadcast on the Asian Television Network. One of his songs Jatt Ho Jiya Sharabi was also featured in an episode of the TV show Heroes in the year 2006.

Mundiyan Toh Bach Ke was heard in the year 2002 in Queer As Folk and the blockbuster Bend It Like Beckham. Punjabi MC’s song Yaaran Kollan Sikh Kuriye was also featured as a music video in the show Wild Boys. The Punjabi MC also made it to the Top of the Pops list and was awarded the title of one of the hottest names in Bhangra by All Music.

He also made compilation albums like Illegal in 2006 with Nupur Audio and Centelo 2 in 2004 with Korean CD. She also received the award for Best Dance Act at MTV Europe Music Awards in 2003, MOBO Awards in 2003 and many other awards.

Unknown Fact About Punjabi MC

• His album Indian Timing was released in 2008. His music video Snake Charmer was screened at DJ Ra’s Music Video Night at the Toronto Film Festival, the longest running South Asian film festival in North America.
• Also in 2001, the Punjabi MC had its Canadian premiere at Payal Banquet Hall in Mississauga (Ontario).
  DJ Ra hosted a TV special covering the program called “The Bhangramentary” which was aired on the Asian Television Network (ATN).
• His single from Khabardaar, “Jatt Ho Jiya Sharabi”, was performed on the television show Heroes (Episode 2, Don’t Look Back, which aired on 2 October 2006). An underground hit on the Internet, it was picked up by the German record label Superstar Recordings, and became a hit record in Germany and throughout Europe, including the UK.
