Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau further reduces foreign student visas  “declared that the country will crack down on “bad actors” who “abuse the immigration system and take advantage of students” after the government announced a further reduction in the number of study permits available to foreign students.

According to official estimates, Canada will issue 437,000 study permits in 2025, a 10% decrease from the 485,000 permits that were issued in 2024. In 2026, this figure won’t change.

The government had earlier in January declared a limit on the number of foreign students that might be admitted for the following two years. This is expected to result in a 35% decrease in the number of students admitted in 2024 as compared to 2023.

To reduce the number of bogus or denied asylum claims, the government also intends to tighten regulations on work permits for spouses of some foreign workers and international students. Additionally, inspections before the issuance of travel visas will be intensified.

Before this, the country declared its intention to lower the percentage of temporary residents from 6.8% in April to 5% of the total population.

A young couple named Baran Abed and Mahdi Pourbaghi, who had been married for 11 years, were preparing to go to Canada. However, the horrifying finding of Abed’s corpse in a suitcase shocked the Iranian community in St. John’s.

 CANADA-FATAL-DESTINATION

There are a ton of happy-looking pictures of a young, energetic couple who had overcome their distance to eventually start a life together in Canada.

In one June social media photo, the woman is seen beaming beneath cherry blossoms, with her husband smiling in the front. The two are seen in another selfie, enjoying the sun while strolling along the harbor.

However, Baran Abed and Mahdi Pourbaghi were facing a black cloud that would ultimately result in her assassination in St. John’s this summer.

A bereaved Iranian community is now committed to returning her body to Iran. A trail of grieving and questioning runs through it all.

Abed, 33, moved from Tehran, Iran to St. John’s in May to begin a new chapter in her life.

Her body was discovered inside a suitcase in a quiet neighborhood in downtown St. John’s just two months later; the crime horrified the community she was only getting to know.

The remains of Baran were discovered close to Springdale Street, at the west end of Water Street. The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary reported in a news release on July 19 that her spouse was also discovered dead by authorities and that he was thought to have killed her.

Our community is extremely touched by this tragedy.

As the small Iranian community tries to make sense of the cruel deed that claimed Abed’s life, the alliance has been helping to raise money to return Abed’s remains back to his family.

There are no additional suspects in the death of Baran, according to the police. However, RNC Const. James Cadigan stated that the inquiry is still ongoing as detectives work to piece together what transpired during the couple’s last days.

The news director of Southeast Asian radio station RED FM in Calgary, Rishi Nagar, claims that at three o’clock on Sunday afternoon, he was accosted by two males as he was leaving the Rio Banquet Hall.

Global News was informed in a statement by a Calgary police spokesperson that the investigation is still ongoing and that no suspects are in custody.

Rishi briefed the media on Tuesday at a news conference regarding a story he covered last week about two guys who were seen outside the Dashmesh Culture Centre on September 24.
