Harshdeep Kaur is an Indian playback singer who has gained popularity for her soulful Sufi renditions, earning her the nickname “Sufi Ki Sultana”. She started her career at the age of 16 and has since established herself as a leading playback singer in Bollywood and various other Indian film industries. Kaur has worked with several renowned music directors, including A R Rahman, Pritam Chakraborty, and Vishal-Shekhar, and has recorded songs in multiple languages.
She has also sung for a Hollywood film, with her track “R.I.P.” being a part of the movie 127 Hours directed by Danny Boyle. Some of Kaur’s popular songs include “Dilbaro” from Raazi, “Heer” from Jab Tak Hai Jaan, and “Kabira” from Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani. In 2019, Kaur won the IIFA Award, Star Screen Award, and Zee Cine Award for Best Female Playback Singer for her song “Dilbaro” from Raazi.
Harshdeep Kaur, the Indian playback singer, was born on 16 December 1986 in Delhi to Savinder Singh. She comes from a musical family, as her father owns a factory of musical instruments. Kaur attended Springdales School in New Delhi, where she started learning music at the age of six. She received training in Indian classical music from Mr. Tejpal Singh, also known as the Singh Brothers, and in Western classical music from George Pullinkala of Delhi Music Theatre.
At the age of twelve, Kaur joined the Delhi School of Music to learn piano, and this marked the beginning of her exploration of the world of music. Harshdeep Kaur married her childhood friend Mankeet Singh in a traditional Sikh wedding ceremony held in Mumbai on 20 March 2015. The couple welcomed their first child, a son named Hunar Singh, on 2 March 2021.
