Chappell Roan, a gay pop artist, wrote the music for her first and only film with a Los Angeles filmmaker years before she became a global hit.

Streamable on streaming services, the 2022 short horror film “Posies” incorporates Roan’s eerie vocals for an original song, along with her 2018 track “Bitter.”Hollywood exorcist Stavis is based in Los Angeles and is the author of “Sister of Darkness: The Chronicles of a Modern Exorcist.” The book explores Stavis’ experiences as a “secular exorcist,” working with “small children and Hollywood moguls to stay-at-home moms and politicians,” and is currently being turned into a television series.

“Posies” is set in New Orleans, and Stavis and her crew started working on it in October 2019. Production started in December of the same year. The majority of the movie was filmed in Maison Vitry, a Creole mansion in New Orleans constructed in 1855 for Louis Arsene Vitry, a free woman of color, according to Stavis.

 When Stavis and Roan first met in November 2019 in Los Angeles, Roan gave her score in April 2020, according to Stavis. Stavis, who was already a fan (she claimed to have first heard Roan’s music in 2018), contacted the now-pop singer in September 2019.

Given that many TV and movie stars have theater backgrounds, Stanczyk says it’s not shocking to see so much star power. 

Margulies studied stage, which is also where Zegler and Connor first began. Scherzinger attended Wright State University to study musical theater. Broadway legends are not being squeezed out by the surge of Hollywood types: roles have been booked by Audra McDonald, Sutton Foster, Jonathan Groff, Patti LuPone, Megan Hilty, Jennifer Simard, Adrienne Warren, and Darren Criss.

Stanczyk believes that the stars’ desire to advance their careers and experience the special excitement that life theater can provide may be the driving force behind Hollywood’s interest in the stage.

Matty said, “I think that’s an obvious thing to draw from.” Simply put, I have no interest in it. I see people doing it too, and it’s not engaging. The concept of writing a record about something that happened to me personally that will be around two years old by the time I publish it.”

Using “journal entries and little bits of heartbreak,” the “About You” singer acknowledged that he “used to write about relationships a lot more.” However, these days, he prefers to make music that sparks discourse.
