Canada's Public Health Reform

Canada’s Public Health Reform: The Senate passed the legislation on Thursday without any revisions, making the pharma care bill—which was essential to a political agreement between the Liberals and NDP—law.

As far as universal health care is concerned, only Canada lacks universal pharmacratic begin funding diabetic and hormone replacement medications in that province, British Columbia and Ottawa have already inked a memorandum of understanding.

US senators encourage Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to fulfill his pledge to invest 2% of GDP on defense.

Justin Trudeau

In response to worries that important NATO allies are underperforming, a bipartisan group of 23 US senators has written to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, pleading with him to honor his pledge to devote 2% of GDP to defense.

We are deeply dismayed and worried that Canada’s most recent projection suggests it won’t meet its two percent promise this decade as the NATO Summit in Washington, D.C., in 2024 approaches.

With 32 members now, the defensive alliance was founded with Canada as a founding member. The senators acknowledged Canada’s numerous contributions to NATO, including its leadership in bolstering military operations and creating criteria about democracy, economic viability, and human rights.

The presumed GOP presidential nominee, Donald Trump, has had a significant influence on the ongoing efforts to persuade alliance members to increase their spending, even if the letter makes no mention of him. Trump consistently pushed members to increase their alliance contributions and overall defense spending throughout his presidency.

Statistics Canada reports that income inequality in Canada has reached its highest point ever.

income inequality

As wealth gets concentrated in fewer hands, income inequality in Canada has reached its greatest level ever, according to the country’s statistics agency.

According to Statistics Canada, the difference in the proportion of disposable income between the richest two-fifths of Canadians and the poorest two-fifths increased to 47 percentage points in the second quarter of 2024. This information was released on Thursday.

According to a Statistics Canada estimate, at an average household wealth of $3.4 million in the second quarter, the wealthiest 20 percent of Canadians possessed more than two-thirds of the nation’s wealth. In contrast, the wealthiest 40% of Canadians held only 2.8% of the country’s total wealth.

Regarding the growing disparity in income across Canadians, Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland responded that the Liberal administration has been concentrating on proposing policies to support middle-class and lower-class citizens, like programs for childcare and dental care.

Tonight there is a strong geomagnetic storm that could produce spectacular northern lights.

geomagnetic storm

A big geomagnetic storm was predicted to hit Earth on Thursday and into Friday, but it has already started, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC). A coronal mass ejection, which sends solar particles flying toward Earth, followed two strong solar flare eruptions from the sun last week, for instance, and the SPWC predicted a G3 storm for the weekend. Northern lights result from the interaction of these particles with our magnetic field.

Alerts issued to public servants

Even though they are stunning, strong geomagnetic storms can interfere with electricity systems, as was the case in Quebec in 1989.

It was a lesson learned by power companies worldwide, who have subsequently implemented precautions to avoid similar power line outages.

For instance, there were no power outages as a result of the May storm.
