Born in West Bengal in 1987, Arijit was trained in classical music by his maternal aunt and mother. He was fond of music from an early age, his parents even decided to train him under a professional instructor, Rajendra Prasad Hazari in classical music and Dhirendra Prasad Hazari in tabla. His teachers also encouraged Arijit to try out for Fame Gurukul in 2005 and chose to promote the Indian classical music genre.
Pritam Chakraborty gave Arjit a chance and signed him for three films; Crook, Golmaal 3, and Action Replay. He also made his singing debut in 2011, singing “Phir Mohabbat” for Murder 2. This marked the beginning of his career as a playback singer and inspired him to sing songs such as; Singh became a household name with the release of the hit songs “Tum Hi Ho”, “Raabta”, “Dua”, and “Phir Le Aaya Dil”, earning nominations for the latter two at the Mirchi Music Awards. The song helped her win nine awards from various awards shows. He has sung since then.
