Neha Kakkar is a prominent Indian comedian and playback singer who was born on 6 June 1988 in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, India. Neha is the sister of popular playback singer Sonu Kakkar. In 2006, she and her family moved to Delhi, where she completed her schooling at New Holy Public School, before appearing in the second season of the reality show, Indian Idol.
She also became popular as the Indian version of Colombian singer Shakira due to her graceful singing style. She later got a chance to work in the reality-based comedy show, Comedy Circus Ke Tansen opposite the famous comedian Kapil Sharma.
Neha discovered her talent in singing when she was just four years old and with the encouragement of her sister and brother, she started performing in some singing competitions from her childhood. The first time she participated in a competition, she sang the song ‘Maine Pyaar Tumhi Se Kiya Hai’ from Phool Aur Kaante.
She and her sister also performed as back-up singers with her brother in Mata Ki Chowki. Neha told how Indian Idol helped her gain popularity and she started getting offers to do stage shows and sing Hindi film songs. However, this never helped her in getting opportunities as a playback singer. She does it in her own way with a lot of hard work and patience.

The year 2008 saw the release of her debut album, Neha The Rock Star which contained eight songs composed by Meet Brothers. In 2009 she sang the song, Bareilly Ke Bazaar Mein Remix, Blue (Theme), Hai Ram and a title track for the television series, Na Aana Is Des Laado. She also did a Telugu song, Neeve Na Neeve Na, in 2010. It was only later that she sang for the 2011 film, Not a Hu Ek Pal.
Her song, Second Hand Jawaani, was included in the soundtrack of the 2012 romantic comedy film, Cocktail. Neha also recorded a song titled SRK Anthem for Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, which made it a YouTube sensation. In 2013, she sang Dhating Naach for the Bollywood film, Ramaiya Vastavaiya, Jaddu Ki Jhappi and the box-office hit, Phata Poster Nikhla Hero, which have also become hits.
