About Gurpatwant Singh Pannun

Gurpatwant Singh Pannun is the founder of the banned Sikhs for Justice (SFJ). It is also said that Pannun, who lives in America, is allegedly a resident of Khankot village in Amritsar district.

His father, Mahinder Singh, was also a former employee of the Punjab State Agricultural Marketing Board. Pannun is one of three children. It is also said that he has obtained a law degree from Punjab University and at present he is also an advocate of law in America.

He is also one of the founders of the US-based separatist group, Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), which was formed in support of Khalistan. Its headquarter is located in New York. According to reports, the SFJ was formed in October 2007 itself.

Pannun is well known for bombing social media pages with his controversial videos and provocative audios broadcast in Punjabi. Gurpatwant Singh Pannun had also started a campaign for the release of Jagtar Singh Hawara, the alleged mastermind of the Beant Singh murder case.

On professional grounds, Pannun had also enabled the SJF to approach US courts to prosecute Kamal Nath and other Indian leaders allegedly linked to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. However, the court then dismissed the case on the grounds that it did not sufficiently “touch and concern” the US.

The SJF had earlier filed a case against Congress President Sonia Gandhi in September 20W03 for shielding members of the Congress party who were also involved in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The organization also filed a case against then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, accusing him of “funding crimes against humanity perpetrated on the Sikh community in India”.
